Ano-Genital Warts
Genital warts are a sexually transmitted infection caused by certain types of human papillomavirus (HPV).
Genital warts are ‘warts’ in the genital area caused by a virus called the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). There are many different types of HPV. Types 6 and 11 are the types that commonly cause genital warts.

Case definition
Clinical criteria
Any person with the following clinical picture: ano-genital warts is an infection characterised by the presence of visible, raised growths on the internal or external genitalia, perineum, or perianal region
Laboratory criteria
At least one of the following two:
- Histopathological confirmation
- Detection of human papilloma virus DNA
Epidemiological criteria
NA
Case classification
A. Possible case
NA
B. Probable case
A clinically compatible case without histopathologic diagnosis and without microscopic or serologic evidence that the growth is the result of secondary syphilis
C. Confirmed case
Any person meeting the clinical and the laboratory criteria
