European

Ireland has contributed to the European Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme (Euro-GASP) since 2010. Euro-GASP is an ECDC-coordinated sentinel surveillance programme that monitors trends in N. gonorrhoeae antimicrobial resistance in the participating EU/EAA member states. Ireland participates via de-centralised antimicrobial susceptibility testing of N. gonorrhoeae isolates in the Department of Clinical Microbiology, St. James’s Hospital (SJH), Dublin (now the Interim National Gonococcal Reference Laboratory). All collected isolates are tested for susceptibility to clinically relevant antimicrobials. Results are reported annually by ECDC.
